About Vivian

I have loved animals for as long as I can remember.

I am a Clinical Herbalist.

Clinical refers to the fact that I am in practice helping cats, dogs and horses and their owners. When I first started working with animals, they were the pets of my human clientele. The majority of the animals were severely ill and their owners had exhausted other, more traditional methods of care. Now I see many pets whose owners just want to prevent any problems from developing.

I don’t want to go into a lot of boring details about my own health history. Suffice it to say that after ten years of going from drug to drug, specialist to specialist, surgery to surgery, I turned my back on conventional medicine. I had a few “parts” removed. I joked with my doctors that if they removed the next ones they wanted to, I wouldn’t have any left for old age. I had been told three times that I had malignant tumors. I was taking a drug which I discovered caused cancer. But it wasn’t until a doctor said “Quality or quantity of life - I can’t give you both” that I realized I had to take renewed responsibility for my life. The drug improved the quality of my life, but my doctor was quite sure that I would develop breast cancer within 10 years. He advised that with my health history, and that of my family, I was not likely to survive this time. One of the many specialists I was seeing told me that the body can actually heal itself, if only you knew what to do. So I started to search for alternatives. Had I not, I doubt I would be here to write this book.

Twenty-six years ago I began an herbal program and I have never looked back. The turnaround of my health has astounded all who knew me. It was a long, hard road. But it is one that I feel left me with many blessings. I used to always wonder “Why me?” and “Why did I get so sick?” Later, “Why did I recover?” The odds were certainly against me. I now know it was to enable me to do what I am doing. I could not do it with the same conviction and dedication if I had not lived it and survived.

I started helping family and friends to better health, and that eventually developed into a very busy practice. It was a natural progression that blended the two loves of my life - animals and natural healthcare.

A Herbalist uses herbs and supplements to heal and balance the body, thereby allowing the body to nuture itself.

I would prefer to see neither you nor your pet when life threatening diseases and crippling joint pain have already compromised your quality of life. Rather, I would prefer to see you before these problems have become a desperate issue.

Preventing and eliminating illness naturally is a wonderful thing, and I hope that by the end of this book the reader will view it not just as an idea but as a way of life. I know that it can add many pain free years to your pet’s life. The nutritional changes can be made by anyone, but when facing serious health issues it is always wise to seek the advice of a natural healthcare practitioner. Specifically, choose one that has worked with animals.

As you can well imagine, my work with animals has been a very rewarding experience. You see, animals will respond very quickly to herbs and supplements. They do not have a preconceived notion about natural healing. Never do you hear a dog saying “Well, she wants me to take this, but I don’t know. If it keeps her happy I’ll do it, but I don’t think it will do any good.” You give your pet the correct energy-food and it will balance and heal.

It is an indescribable feeling to see an animal that was scheduled to be destroyed, now walking, running and being enjoyed by its family.

I share many of these very wonderful experiences with you in the book.
